Living in Ohio has its draw backs trying to get ready for the Appalachian trail. We just don't have the elevation here. Kayla and I are trying to hit the trail in decent shape. We want to be able to do decent miles from the start since we are starting so late for a NoBo. Today I'm going hike and do a lot of calf exercises. Counting down the days!!!
Hi! Just found your blog on WhiteBlaze. My husband and I spent two months on the A.T. last year and had the best experience of our lives! We're from Indiana and ran into the same problem with not having a place to train before we left. Don't worry too much about it though, you will be fine and get your trail legs very quickly once you're there. :) We hiked with an older gentleman who had trained extensively for the trail and he said it didn't do him a bit of good, that "the only thing that prepares you for the A.T. is the A.T." I think he was right! lol. Good luck to you both and happy hiking! It is a wonderful adventure filled with awesome experiences.
