Dan's Gear List

The following Items is what I will be carrying with me on my 2014 thru hike. The idea of a thru hike is to have lightweight or ultra light gear so its easier on your body because everything you have you carry for the full 2180 miles. Some of my items are heavier then some other models, I went with a blend of gear that is lightweight and luxury to have. My base weight with everything in my pack will be under 20lbs. Not counting food and water.

My big four Tent, Sleeping bag, Sleeping Pad and Pack comes to 9.3 pounds

My tent will be a Six moon Duo Lunar 2 person tent. It comes in at 57 oz . It is a 2 person tent with built in fly. It uses trekking poles for its main frame to stand up to save on weight. I will be splitting the weight with Kayla. This model cost 160 dollars then had the same exact tent but weighs less for 310 dollars . I went with the heavier one to save a little money.

My Sleeping Bag is the Kelty Cosmic Down 40 degree bag. I went down to save some weight over synthetic. Since we are having a late start I went with a higher degree bag and then I am bring a sleeping bag liner incase we do have some cold nights. I think I paid around 100 dollars for this bag.

My sleeping pad is Therma Rest trail lite ? I cant remember exact model.

My pack is awesome! It is a ULA circuit, it has ample room, plenty of  side pockets and hooks to attach extra gear items. It also comes in at 38 oz so its lightweight. You can buy the from ula for 225 dollars.

My Jacket is a combination of lightweight and warmth. It comes in 8 oz and I wore it daily when in 30s and high 20s and never had problem staying warm. It is a Montbell Jacket, I paid 160 dollars for it.

My hiking shirt will be a Columbia Sliver Ridge long sleeve shirt. It is 100 percent nylon with Omni wick material. It has built in spf 50 protection. I can roll sleeves down to keep bugs off me at night or roll them up and un button shit in heat. I paid 50 dollars for it form backcountry.com

Hiking shorts I went with light weight running shorts. Synthetic material that dries quick and breaths. I already had these before planning for trail so I don't remember how much I paid for them .

I will have North Face Zip off pants I will wear for camp and time in towns. Got them on sale for 37 dollars . 16 oz

I will have 2 pair of Exoffico Boxers for the trail I will rotate them out.  15 bucks a pair but there worth it , they are breathable and have anti bacteria properties in them. They are around 15 bucks a pair. 3 oz piece

I will have 3 pair of socks . 2 pair of Darn Tough 1/4 socks for hiking and 1 wool pair to sleep in to keep feet warm. The Darn tough Socks our 16 bucks a pair but have lifetime warranty on them. 2.5 oz

My base layer for cool night and days will be Thermal leggings and an Under Armor thermal top. I will end up sending these home once it is warm enough I wont need them. Had these before the trail so I don't know the price. 4 and 5 oz

I will be wearing Nike trail runner shoes until I bust out of them. I love them so far. I got them at an outlet for 32 bucks new.

I will be wearing Dirty Girl Gaiters over my shoes to keep debris out and these are super styling. Check them out and there only 20 bucks and 2 oz.

Rain Gear I went cheap and light with frogg toggs I got them from Wal-Mart. I don't know how well they will hold up but I am giving them a shot for 17 bucks. They weigh 11 oz

I will be carrying a buff just because it is awesome. Headband, hat, and neck warmer. weighs 1 oz 15 dollars

Camp shoes will be CROCS haha I think they are corny but they are lightweight and they don't absorb water weighs 13 oz 30 bucks.

My cook set I went with a little heavier model but I really like the set up and how it all comes together. I have a GSI Outdoor pinnacle .9 liter pot I think and then my stove and fuel fits all together inside it. Also I have a long handle ultra light titanium spoon 10 bucks, Pot cost 50 dollars and Optimums stove 35 dollars and fuel is around 5 bucks.
All together cook set weighs 19oz

I will be carrying a Black Diamond Revolt headlamp. Its rechargeable and takes AAA's. I think its around 120 lumen . Lots of different light settings and cool you can charge it instead of always buying more batteries.  weighs 405 oz and cost 50 bucks

For water filtration I will  be using a Sawyer Squeeze Mini . It only weighs 2.5 oz . and cost around 20 dollars .We might both carry one, we haven't decide yet if one will be ok.

I will also carry Smart Water water bottle and 1 2L Platypus and before I leave I will buy a 3L to have for camp and then use it for breakfast too.

I have a small multi took with a built in carabineer that comes with scissors, knife, tweezers, file and flat head screwdriver. It weighs only 1.4 oz and cost 20 bucks at REI.

Right now I have some cheapo trekking poles but I'm going to upgrade to nicer ones before I leave. Probably Black Diamond.

For toiletries I will be carrying TP, mini toothbrush, tooth paste, medicine, band aids, safety pins, and some other misc items.

Electronics I will be carrying my Phone a Samsung 3 with charger, I'm debating taking a camera to shoot more videos. I will be carrying some kind of external charger.

The guide book I will be taking is the one and only AWOL NOBO thru hike guide. It's a must have. 9oz and cost around 15 dollars.

I will be carrying 50 foot of nylon cord for my bear bag rope to hang at night and also double it for clothes line.

All this gear I will be putting in some kind of stuff sac. I am not taking a pack cover for rain. I hear bad things about them so I am just going to line my pack with a trash compactor bag to keep everything dry.

There is probably things I forgot to mention and I will update the list if I find any. Also I am going to try and make a gear video so you guys can see what my stuff actually looks like.
